speaking french

Many times I have wondered when my little guy will start to talk. Meaning real English words. He has a few under his belt like: no, kitty, juice, dog, go and hi. Speaking developmentally he is slow in the verbiage department. Oh, don't get me wrong--he can have a ten minute conversation with you looking right into your eyes as he carefully crafts each syllable of his babble: Suckhussascha? noanaschicka??? suuckaschukkasickasickasicka...yah! And he "talks" to everyone! Your local barista, check out clerks, firemen, retail sales person, he has no fear when it come to public speaking.

Often times I feel as though I am teaching him the wrong language. Oliver's talk often has a foreign accent, mainly French, although I have heard a Japanese dialect too. Maybe he is trying to teach me and Adam a new language and is quite frustrated that his pupils are not the brightest bulbs in the pack.

Since Oliver is speaking French to his English speaking parents we are many times left in the dark as to his intentions and new ventures in education. However on Monday night I was giving Oliver a bath and his Mom had an Aha moment. You see Ollie was in his birthday suit helping put his toys in the water when he suddenly he ran out of the bathroom. Oliver ran over to his toy box and pulled out of the bottom his Little People Noah's Ark and headed to the back to the bathroom. It was then that I realized that I have a smart kid that even though he's not saying a lot of real words doesn't mean he doesn't have a lot of real thoughts in his head.

Noah and his Ark really do belong in the bathtub but no longer than 40 days and 40 nights.

Hahahaha - you are so funny! And when he has taught you French, send him my way, because I never could figure it out!
